The ‘stop carers having to pay hospital parking charges’ Bill

Next Discussed

30th
Oct.

Current
Stage

What

To make carers exempt from parking charges at hospitals.

Update: the Bill did not pass its second reading because a Conservative MP used the practice of ‘filibustering’ — he spoke for so long in the debate that a vote could not take place because the session ran out of time.

Why

Carers often have to make multiple visits to hospitals. This would be a big financial help for them.

Who

Julie Cooper MP.

Other Arguments

People who would qualify are those receiving Carer’s Allowance.

Caring would be defined as visiting or transporting someone who needs a hospital visit or stay to be tested, diagnosed, or treated.

How to get involved

Speak to your MP.

If I don’t act, will it go through?

Normally laws like this, sponsored by a private member, are unlikely to become law. This is a popular move, though, so it may have a chance.
